AccuWeather is predicting a snowy winter hereabouts:
“I-95 this year in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic will have more snow than they did last year. However, as far as above-normal snowfall goes, from New York City on south and west has a better shot with more mixed rain and snow systems in New England,” AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok said.
Aside from the autumn nor’easter, last winter was a breeze … unless you own or work for a ski resort. Guess I’ll have to get my skis (and my snow blower) tuned up before the snows arrive.
I remain amused by the prevailing reaction in Connecticut to snow storms. Having lived for several years in upstate New York, where lake-effect blasts of snow were common, I often wonder why school officials and employers will shut down operations over the smallest warnings of snow. In my experience, Connecticut drivers seem fairly competent in slippery conditions, compared with those in, say, Washington, D.C., or Atlanta. The vast majority of us would be able to take care of business in almost any weather.
Anyway, consider yourself forewarned.
